Bharat Kris (“BK”) Rao
Bharat Kris (“BK”) Rao is a seasoned international business executive and social entrepreneur possessing over four decades of C-Suite management experience. Recognizing an imminent paradigm shift in the field of in vitro diagnostics, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, moving healthcare from traditional pathways to newer point of care locations and home use, BK began the enormous task of designing and optimizing a new testing platform for rapid detection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and any of its potential emerging variants, and ensuring the platform was adaptable to other infectious pathogens. The C-Sync™ platform was developed to offer an easy-to-use and accurate point of care test providing reliable results for positive specimens in 2 to 3 minutes or less, and simple enough to be used anywhere, anytime, by any layperson, without the need for formal laboratory training, specialized equipment, or electricity. Under his leadership, BioSynchronicity has been successful in developing the C-Sync™ COVID-19 Antigen Test, which has been verified to have one of the highest performance metrics of any diagnostic antigen test authorized an emergency use authorization (EUA) by the FDA for the COVID-19 public health emergency.
BK is also the founding Chairman of the Bharco Group of Companies, known globally for pioneering work in clean and green sustainable technologies. BK has taken leadership roles in organizing and managing high impact socio-economic projects in five continents of the world and has been involved in the design, implementation, and operation of successful large scale cleantech projects globally. Over the last two decades, he has served on many international business, government, and NGO committees to provide guidance on policy and regulations in public sanitation, public hygiene, and waste and wastewater management, and to evaluate and recommend emerging clean and sustainable technologies. A Biochemist and an MBA by training, an environmentally conscious scientist by nature, BK is considered by his peers to be a visionary businessman, a gifted technocrat, and an effective networker.
Over the past two decades, BK has been a frequent speaker and panelist in many global environmental health seminars. At the invitation of the governments of Canada, USA, and India, he has participated in numerous international conferences and trade missions globally. Recent events include the International Waste Management Summit (2017) organized by the U.S. Consulate, Mumbai in conjunction with Ohio State University and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai, the Prime Minister of Canada’s Official State Visit to India (2018), the Global Climate Action Summit (San Francisco, 2018), the FICCI Circular Economy Summit (Delhi, 2019) and the Change Now Summit (Paris, 2020). He has served on the Steering Committee for the National Task Force on Waste in India and was a sponsor of the Green Healthcare Rating System for the India Green Building Council (IGBC). In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, BK was appointed in March of 2020 to a COVID-19 National Emergency Response Task Force Steering Committee by a major American political group, and in April 2021, to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) COVID-19 National Task Force.
BK is an accomplished musician and considered a brass instrument expert (trumpet, cornet, flugelhorn). While attending the University of Saskatchewan (1976-1980) and the University of Calgary (1980-1982), he supported his education financially through professional engagements as a recognized member of the American Federation of Musicians in concert with several well-known international award winning performing and recording artists.
For nearly two decades, between 1982 and 2002, BK served as a volunteer facilitator and assisted in developing the first life skills training system in Canada targeting economically disadvantaged communities and populations. His advice has also been sought by indigenous leaders in North America. BK remains committed to a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. The Rao family has been recognized for their commitment to volunteerism and social projects, for which a street has been named Rao Crescent in the city of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.
